Ten Easy and Healthy Back-to-School Sandwiches for Lunch Boxes



It’s back to school time — backpacks, school bus rides, and homework! September kicks off an exciting time in your child’s life. New teacher, new grade, and maybe even a new school. One thing that is always consistent is the school lunch. While you may start the school year with your child’s favorite go-to brown bag meal, lunches can quickly become mundane if it’s the same thing week after week. But don't despair! You need not feel doomed to the fate of having to always pack the same ol' thing. Here are a few simple Sunbeam Bread sandwiches that are easy, healthy and will be the hit of the cafeteria!


Cheddar and Apple Sandwich 2 slices of Sunbeam Bread 1 teaspoon whole-grain mustard 1 ounce thinly sliced cheddar Several pieces of thinly sliced apple


Banana Cream Cheese Sandwich

(Egg and nut free)

2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

2 tablespoons of cream cheese

1 banana, sliced


Cucumber Cream Cheese Sandwich

(Egg and nut free)

2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

2 tablespoons of cream cheese

1 thinly sliced cucumber

Peanut Butter, Apple and Raisin Sandwich 2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter

¼ medium apple, thinly sliced 1 tablespoon golden raisins

Ground cinnamon


Pickled Tuna-Salad Sandwiches 2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

1 6-ounce can tuna, drained

1 teaspoon pickle relish (dill or sweet)

1 hard-cooked egg, peeled and finely chopped (optional)

1 teaspoon of mayonnaise

Fresh parsley

Kosher salt and black pepper


Sweet Potato Grilled Cheese

2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

2 tablespoons of sweet potato puree (for natural sweetness and vitamins)

1 slice of cheese (any kind)


Avocado Egg Salad 2 slices of Sunbeam Bread ½ sliced avocado (packed with healthy fats and protein) 1 hard boiled egg (chopped or sliced)


Hungry caterpillar

2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

½ sliced avocado Alfalfa sprouts 2 tablespoons of cream cheese

Make sandwiches, and cut 4 circles from each. Arrange in a caterpillar shape, then add a cherry tomato for the head.


Pizza Grilled Cheese

2 slices of Sunbeam Bread 2 tbsp. butter

1 tablespoon pizza sauce

¼ cup shredded mozzarella

8 slices pepperoni

Fresh basil leaf

Assemble sandwich and lightly brown in a pan with butter like a grilled cheese sandwich.


PB&J Sushi 2 slices of Sunbeam Bread

1/4 cup of smooth peanut butter

1/4 cup of grape jelly Remove crusts from bread. Using a rolling pin, roll bread until very flat. Spread with peanut butter and jelly and roll tightly. Cut into 2” pieces and serve.
